Clean Cornwall supports local students to achieve D of E Award
17.01.25
This January our Clean Cornwall team have been out litter picking with students from local schools as part of the volunteering element of their Duke of Edinburgh Awards.
Students from Mounts Bay Academy joined our Clean Cornwall team to collect litter along Newlyn Beach. In just a small section of the beach, they collected mainly fine fishing line, netting, and plenty of cans. There were also a high number of plastic cable ties. The more the students looked, the more they realised just how much there was to pick up and how much they wouldn't have noticed before.
Clean Cornwall are proud to be acting as assessors for students from schools right across the county who are working towards their Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh awards!
Emily Cantrill, Clean Cornwall project lead, said ‘We’re so pleased to have been contacted by Year 9 and 10 pupils from various secondary schools across Cornwall who are working towards their Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh volunteering awards. It’s been fantastic to go out and help them, and we might have even inspired some of their parents to start their own litter-picking groups too! If your child is looking for ideas for the volunteering section of their award, we’d love to hear from you. We can act as an assessor for them too - just get in touch with us through the Clean Cornwall’.
