Dementia Conference

04.06.25

Cornwall Carers Service recently attended the Dementia Conference and gained valuable insights.

One of our Carers Wellbeing Practitioners attended the Dementia Conference at Royal Cornwall Showground last month.

The event was an opportunity to learn more about the support available across Cornwall and connect with other professionals.

The conference gave our team a chance to connect with other professionals providing key support, and learn more about their services - including Dementia Massage and the NHS borrowing library.

One of the standout sessions was a talk by Professor David Sheard, an expert in Emotional Intelligence in Care. Another important discussion covered contingency planning, led by Hayley Shields, Education Facilitator and Registered Nurse at Cornwall Hospice Care. One of our partners, Promas, also emphasised the crucial role of carers in the care process.

A notable takeaway from the event was the Fire Service's initiative to offer home fire safety checks. These checks can be arranged online or over the phone and, in some cases, may directly notify the fire service about vulnerable individuals. Additionally, Safelincs provides an online home fire safety check that generates a personalised fire safety action plan for users.
