Learners team up with Cornwall Hospitality Collective for Annual Members Conference.
23.10.24
Our Work Your Way students were given the opportunity to help out at Cornwall Hospitality Collective’s first annual members conference at The Alverton hotel.
A group of students from Work You Way’s work experience programme were invited to help with catering at CHC’s event and to see into a real working environment. The students were involved with clearing tables, transferring food and drinks and laying out a buffet whilst handling the time pressures that come with a large-scale event.
Opportunities like this are valuable to the students, allowing them to find out more about an industry and whether or not they like it, to build confidence and learn skills in a supportive environment.
Feedback from the students was extremely positive - one student said ‘it was amazing … I feel like a waitress’ while others said ‘it was brilliant’ and ‘I liked helping’. The team worked well together and were praised for their efforts by Mark from CHC, and given a round of applause by the crowd.
Not only did our students get involved but our CEO Katherine gave a talk on CRCC, Learn Your Way, Work Your Way and our new programme Work Your Way at Gwel an Mor – explaining how the programmes run and how supported internships can benefit both the student but also the businesses and organisations that take them on. It was also great to hear first-hand from some of the businesses who host our interns about just how successful the programme is and how much they enjoy having our interns in their teams.
